Łeba is placed in the central part of the coast, between Łebsko and Serbsko Lakes and world-wide reserve of biosphere -  Słowiński National Park with movable dunes. It is one of the most ecologically clean areas in Poland. Picturesque landscapes, bicycle and wandering routes are conducive to organize trips and walks. What is more - the microclimate in Łeba with heightened content of salt and iodine has curative properties the whole year. Łeba makes the perfect conditions to do some water sports such as windsurfing, sailing and fishing. What makes this place so attractive is very convenient  road system and over 10 thousands suites of rooms in modern hotels and guesthouses and very expanded hospitality services. From numerous tourist attractions we offer you e.g. a trip by passenger river boat to the movable dunes and launching pad, tourist cruises or drives by fabulous train.

 


THE CITY'S IMPORTANT HISTORICAL MOMENTS

1282   the first mention about the town in documents
           of
Pomeranian prince Mściwoj II

1357   fishing settlement is given the civic rights

1570
  next severe storm destroys Łeba - the citizens
          build the new town to the east of the mouth of   
          the Łeba River.

1887  transferring to the west and final regulations to the
         mouth of Łeba River in order to protect the town  
         and its new harbor from next storms.

1906  ceremonial opening of the health resort (Kurhaus)
          situated on the coastal dune.

16.05.1945  the report of  taking over the town by Polish
                  government from German.

1984   the opening of the biggest camping in Poland –
          Intercamp.The town organized the international
          45 Rally FICC.

1998   Księstwo Łebskie is re-established. A new yacht
          harbor is opened and the restore of the main
          harbor is started.
 


MOST VALUABLE MONUMENTS
 

The lighthouses:

  • Stilo Lighthouse was built in 1904-06, on a concrete and white marble foundation. The height of the lighthouse from the top to the bottom is 34metres.
     
  • Czołpino Lighthouse is placed between Łeba and Rowy, on the area of Słonimski National Park and between Lakes - Gardno and Łebsko. It was built with red faced trick and takes the form of taper. The height of the lighthouse is 25,2m. It has been available for tourists since 1994 and thus you can admire the beautiful view of the dunes and all surroundings

     
  • Słowiński National Park- is in the north part of the  Gardnieńsko – Łebskia lowland, was set up in 1st January 1967. In 1977 it was acknowledged by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve. The main tourist attraction of the park are the movable dunes, which very fine sand under the influence of the wind is moved to the east with the speed of 3- 10m. annually, covering come across trees.
     
  • The ruins of St. Mikołaj Church, the guardian of sailors and fishermen in 14th century. It is the oldest monument in Łeba. HEREABOUTS the chuch there was „the old Łeba – the origin town” in 14th century. Unfortunately the strong and catastrophic storms damaged the building and leaving only its one piece.
     
  • Evangelical cemetery near Parkowa Street. There is an obelisk commemorative the cemetery of evangelical community, living in Łeba in 1945. On the stone there is a statement “to the memory of evangelical community” in 4 languages: Kashubian language, German, Polish and Latin.
     
  • Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary’ s Church at Powstańców Warszawy Street 28- was built in 1683. of some pieces of St. Mikołaj Church damaged by the storms in 1558. On the exterior wall there is a reconciliation’s stone which commemorative Łeba’s and the nearest villages’ citizens who died in First World War. In the church there are e.g. Maxa Pechstein’s painting showing  Virgin Mary standing on the globe dipped  in  sea waves and the figure of silver cod which was given to the Pope Jan Paweł II by Łeba’s fishermen in 6th June 1999 as a symbol of what is the most precious for them. There has been restored also a figure of 200-year-old baptismal angel. There is a legend that it was found by the woman longing for her husband – fisherman, as a gratitude that he luckily came back home after spending very long time at the sea. The carving is made of pinewood and weighs 80kg.
     
  • Ornithological Garden – Kolonijna Street- inspired by the Łeba’s enthusiast of birds on the 6 – acres - area. You can see there over 100 species of birds from all over the world. The area consists of a few peninsulas, islands and fishing lakes which are all connected to each other.
     
  • Western City – placed 500metres from the entry to Łeba. There are organized some western events which popularize the culture of Wild West.
     
  • Jan Paweł II’s Park – Łąkowa Street – on Łeba’s branch of  Zrzeszenie Kaszubsko-Pomorskie’s initiative in 25th July 1999 in the park was placed a figure of St. Jacob Apostle which was made by the carver - Piotr Tyborski. The figure is a part of famous pope’s altar in Sopot made by professor Marian Kołodziej
     
  • NEPTUN the castle on the beach from 1905, architecturally interesting building placed in marvelous place, on the scarp of sea dune. Old Kurhaus than next: Profilaktyczny Dom Zdrowia, Ośrodek Fundusz Wczasów Pracowniczych and a hotel from the 80s – the property of the partnership which wants to restore it.
     
  • Navigational Cross -  steeled, 16metres construction. It is placed at the bottom of Łeba’s west breakwater. It was built in September 2001 and is commemorative to the memory of sailors, fishermen and those who haven’t come back from the sea.
     
  • Słowińska Village’ Museum in  Kluki was settled in 1963.  The three preserved farms there became the frame work of the museum and the old ones  occurred between them have been filled with farms removed from the farer parts of the village. In this way the buildings in Kluki, which presents the słowińska’s architecture from the end of 18th century to the interwar period, have been reconstructed. It is opened from July to August.
